Russian folk song, dance, and music ensemble Barynya performed multicultural school assembly concert on Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Johnson Street Elementary School, 1601 Johnson Street in High Point, NC (North Carolina) 27262.
Dancer Erik performed traditional Russian dances "Barynya", "Kalinka", "Yablochko" (dance of Russian Sailors), "Bottle dance", "Bear Dance", Bashkir and Nanai dances. He showed students to do perform a few moves of Russian folk dancing.
Artistic Director and Founder of the ensemble Barynya Mikhail Smirnov played garmoshka, performed Russian tongue-twisters, folk songs "Katyusha", "Koroboshka", and provided explanation of the program in English. He talked briefly about costumes, folk instruments, Russian traditions, explained the difference between Russian and English alphabet.
Musical director of the group Elina Karokhina performed a few medleys on Russian folk string instrument balalaika, danced Siberian folk dance "Metelitsa" ("The Snowstorm").
Ensemble Barynya is available for hire for the Performing Art Centers, festivals, schools, libraries, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups and combinations.
